R.I.P. Harry McWatters

July 30, 2019

It's been a tough couple of weeks around here. We lost our very good friend and WineGuard supporter Harry McWatters. Harry marked his 50th vintage in August of 2017. He was a legend in the world of the British Columbia Wine Wine Industry. Harry was a brilliant, witty, and genuine human being. He was profoundly generous with his knowledge and his time. Grapes of-all-things, brought us together almost 10 years ago in Summerland. As inexperienced small vineyard owners, we were having trouble selling our grapes. Harry graciously offered his support by telling us “You are now growers in an industry that looks after each other. I will help you”.

Harry not only helped us make our wine, he encouraged us to market our wine glass cover inventions to wineries our area and became our number one supporter. In Harry's words...“Fruit flies can drastically change the aroma of a wine as well as its taste. To enjoy a wine to its fullest potential, it is very important to keep fruit flies out. Once a fly lands in your wine it should be thrown away. But like you, I prefer to enjoy every sip of my wine. I’ve seen many wine accessories over the years but this wine glass protector really does the trick. It keeps flies out of your wine, while still enabling it to breathe. The WineGuard looks elegant, is well-made from quality materials and is heavy enough to remain on your glass during a light breeze. This is one of my favourite new wine accessories.” The Late Harry McWatters, Encore Vineyards Ltd.

We will miss you forever Harry...

A common annoyance in the wine world is the presence of fruit flies. These tiny insects are attracted to the sugar and yeasts in wine, and can often be seen hovering around the surface of the wine or crawling on the glass.

Sand in My Drink

Don't you miss travel? We do too. Have you ever had sand in your drink? It's not pretty, especially if you can't rinse your glass with fresh water. On this hot day in Maui a few years back we used the DrinkGuard to keep the sand out of our cups and to also protect our pina coladas from the hot sun.
